Discover Adnams in Southwold: Lighthouse, Brewery and Gin Tours

A stay at Log Cabin Holidays is a chance to slow down, enjoy the Suffolk countryside and explore somewhere new. If you fancy a day by the coast during your stay, why not head to Southwold and discover one of the tours offered by Adnams. You can add a tour to your booking extras, so we can organise this all for you!

Whether you’re interested in local history, enjoy a good beer or love a gin and tonic, these experiences give you a chance to see another side of this seaside town.

Climb Southwold Lighthouse

Ever wondered what Southwold looks like from the top of its famous lighthouse? An Adnams Lighthouse Tour gives you the chance to find out.

This working lighthouse sits among the town’s streets, and a guided visit reveals the history behind this much-loved landmark. There are 113 steps to climb, including a steep ladder near the top, but your reward is a view across the rooftops, surrounding countryside and out to sea.

Allow around an hour for the experience. Children can join in too, provided they are at least seven years old and 1.1 metres tall, with no more than two children per responsible adult. Everyone must be able to manage the stairs unaided, so this tour won’t suit guests with restricted mobility.

Go Behind the Scenes at Adnams Brewery

For beer lovers, the Adnams Brewery Tour is a lovely addition to a day in Southwold.

You’ll follow the brewing process, learn about the town’s brewing heritage and discover what goes into making Adnams beers. It’s a chance to look beyond the label and explore the work behind each brew.

The experience lasts approximately 90 minutes and finishes with a guided tasting of different beer styles. Tours are for adults aged 18 and over and involve walking, standing and steep staircases. If you’d like to see the brewery while production is taking place, Adnams recommends a weekday visit, as brewing doesn’t usually happen at weekends.

Explore the Copper House Distillery

If gin is more your thing, take a look at the Adnams Distillery Tour.

Inside the Copper House Distillery, your guide explains how grains are turned into spirits and how botanicals bring different flavours to Adnams gins. There are views over Southwold from the distillery windows, followed by a tutored tasting of Adnams spirits.

Allow around 90 minutes for the tour and tasting. This experience is for adults aged 18 and over, and access involves several steep staircases to the top floor of the brewery building. As with the brewery, weekdays offer the best chance of seeing production in action.

For an extra treat, Adnams also offers a separate Make Your Own Gin experience, where you can create a gin to suit your tastes and take home your own bottle—a lovely idea for a birthday or special occasion during your stay.

Make a Day of It

We suggest leaving time either side of your tour to enjoy Southwold at a leisurely pace. Take a stroll along the seafront, browse the shops or stop for lunch before heading back to your cabin for a peaceful evening.

Book your chosen experience ahead of your visit and check the latest prices, availability and requirements directly with Adnams. Fully enclosed, flat shoes are a sensible choice for all three tours.

If you’re combining the lighthouse with a brewery or distillery visit, book the lighthouse first: Adnams operates a zero-alcohol policy for lighthouse visitors. Arrange transport in advance if you’re planning to enjoy the tastings.

A coastal adventure followed by a relaxing evening in the Suffolk countryside—just the sort of day to enjoy during your stay at Log Cabin Holidays.
