Pet friendly places to visit

Being a pet friendly site, we know that it is important to our guests to find out where they can take their dogs out and about with them. So, we have a list below of different places for you to take your pooch.

If you fancy something historic:

There is Landguard Fort at Felixtowe. Dogs are welcome for a walk around here if they are kept on a lead. There is a lovely café by the carpark too. Sutton Hoo also accepts dogs on a lead. There are 2 walks around the site which you can go on with your dog. They do however say that dogs aren’t allowed in the museum. Dogs are also allowed inside and around Framlingham Castle, as long as they are kept on leads.

If beaches are where you want to spend your time:

Dogs are allowed on most of the Suffolk Coast beaches, however some do have restrictions over the summer months so it is best to check the signage at each beach. Most don’t allow dogs over the summer months. Sothwold, Felixtowe Lowestoft and Aldeburgh all have parts either north or south of the main beach which do allow dogs year-round. If you’re heading to Dunwich you are able to take your dog at any time. You can also visit one of the pubs with your dog. (See pub section!) If you fancy a more secluded spot, Covehithe is a beach where your dogs can run free. It is only accessible by foot and dogs must be kept on a lead on the walk down there as there are pigs along the lane. Once on the beach the dogs can run free.

Cafes accepting dogs:

Woodbridge has a couple of lovely dog friendly cafes, the Firestation and the Tea Hut. If you’re heading to the coast the Beach café and Clockhouse on the pier are pet friendly or the Cragg Sister Café in Aldeburgh. Just down the road from Aldeburgh is The Kitchen at Thorpness who also allow pets.

Pet friendly pubs:

If its pub grub you fancy while you’re out and about, The Eels foot is perfect for a mid-point lunch break on circular walk from Dunwich Heath. The ship at Dunwich is also a great pub which is pet friendly. There are even drinks and snacks for the dogs. Finally, Ufford Crown near Woodbridge allows pets in while you dine.

Family Attractions including the dog:

Suffolk Punch trust is a lovely day out where you are able to see the stunning horses known for their work on the Suffolk fields. This is located near Woodbridge and there are 3 walks around the farm where you can take your dog on a lead. You are also able to take you dog on a lead around Easton Farm Park and Orford Castle.
